As promised, I took some quick photos of my last 2 sewn projects, the budget Juliette et Justine butterfly dress and the astrology map otome blouse. I wanted to do casual looks instead of the elaborate over-the-top coords that I would only wear for a special occasion, sorta. No wigs or even styled hair, no circle lenses, no nail polish, I did put on some makeup but it’s like “natural no-makeup” makeup.
[fashion, 2024]In the first photo is how I would wear it out with family (in the summer), no petticoat, no tights or stockings, plain flat shoes, earrings and bracelet but no necklace. The hair tie has a ribbon bow and that’s it. Ideally I would wear a nice cute pair of sandals but not heels because I’m old. It looks fine, but not very flattering but at least the fabric is so soft and light and pretty so I’ll accept that. The photo on the right is a bit more dressy, with pearl necklace, black tights and fancy floral embroidery heels. I also am wearing the handmade bow made from scraps of the butterfly fabric. The biggest difference in the silhouette is from a mid-size petticoat worn low and a black silky sash tied around the waist, which I think makes a better overall impression especially in motion. What do you think?
[fashion, 2024]This is my idealized outfit for the galaxy handmade blouse that I probably wouldn’t wear outside for more than 15 minutes, but I would consider it strongly. As the fabric is thick quilting cotton, the blouse is rather stiff and not breathable, but I guess it wouldn’t feel so bad in the fall or spring (if it wasn’t also humid lol). I am wearing it with a galaxy print headband and galaxy print tights (all different prints) along with plain black denim shorts and heeled booties. I am also wearing my star sunglasses, Kaeya constellation earrings and some star rings to go with the theme. In reality, I probably would just wear the blouse with jeans and sneakers or sandals.
I have been trying to make more clothes I would actually wear, like a dream wardrobe of only clothes that spark joy but are also wearable everyday unlike my lolita dresses. However, making such a wardrobe requires skill, a serger machine, time, and the right fabrics, and I just cannot land all 4 aspects, or even 3 of the 4 since I probably won’t ever buy a serger. But I have been wearing my pajama pants and shorts a lot, so I count those as 2 victories, and that is not too shabby.
My next lolita project is a white ruffle underskirt and maybe a black one as well, as the only underskirt I have is a purple one which I never wear since it doesn’t go with anything lol. My next normie project is probably a pair of joggers to wear outside for errands that don’t require jeans, since I have gotten too fat for all my pants but didn’t want to admit it, and maybe some more cutsews from recycled t-shirts, which I do wear my homemade cutsews occasionally, but not that often. But really I am working on cosplay hahah.
