I went to a local Transformers cupsleeve event because the organizer had flyers up at their booth at the last local art market I went to and I was like, hey, I loved the new Transformers One movie that did so badly in theaters, why don’t I try to brush up on my knowledge of the fandom and make stuff to attend this meetup and try to make friends? Then the election happened and… I did nothing. I figured since I may die soon because fuck this country, I will go to the event by myself even though I was not prepared at all and my memory is shot.
It was really fun and cute and I had some really good Transformers-based drinks, so I’m glad I went. If you are not aware, a cupsleeve event is a mini meetup for fans of K-pop or other fandoms, where the organizer collaborates with a drink restaurant and provides cup sleeves to decorate themed drinks that match the event. K-pop is the main type of event that I know of, but lately there have been other events, like videogames and Sanrio and anime. Previously in the metroplex, many themed events took place at the ice cream shop as well as a boba shop, but the ice cream shop just permanently closed so I guess it’s just all drink shops now. The events usually have a few artist tables that sell merch related to the event, a backdrop to take selfies with props, and other decor or freebies.
I tried to make freebies to bring because I always like to have those on hand now that I’m older and have money unlike when I was young and had energy with no money, but depression took over and I wasn’t productive after work. I did get a lot of practice with my embroidery machine and traditional art so it wasn’t a complete waste of effort though. Anyways, I purchased stuff from four artists there, got a raffle ticket from the Autobots drink (with yummy soju!) for a free button and then scooped up as many freebies as I could lol. They also had name bracelets for your favorite minor character no one else likes, I picked up Laserbeak because… I didn’t know who the rest were or I didn’t like their colors hahah. There were boards for voting your favorite Optimus Prime and Megatron version and a post it notes bulletin and the TV was playing random Transformers show clips, plus got my photo in front of the Cybertron backdrop, see below photo.
My outfit was Starscream-themed and I even did my hair and attempted matching nails but was lazy at the end. I wore my Optimus Prime bracelet and brought my small Megatron figure as my date because I didn’t want to damage my more expensive figures lol. I bought the Decepticons drink to go (no soju), it was also really delicious, probably my fave, and had glitter. It was fun talking to other Transformers fans so even though I was so sad and numb and walking about in a daze, I can say I had a good time.
