[fashion] Atelier Pierrot plus size jumperskirt

Happy belated International Lolita Day! I always forget about the summer lolita days unless someone reminds me ahead of time lol. I did technically wear a lolita cutsew yesterday, so that counts as participation right?  Today I wanted to show off a very quick coord of my Atelier Pierrot plus size jumperskirt in purple x black colorway.

For background on this preorder purchase, please refer to Stephano’s article last year in 2023 regarding Atelier Pierrot offering truly plus sizing for their jumperskirts. Now if you have seen photos of me or met me in real life, I am not plus size in either height or weight. I am 5 feet 1 inch and while I have gained weight due to work from home and aging, I am still well within the normal range. My issue is my hip and waist measurement is large compared to my bust, and my body in general is not a standard female shape. So even though I appear to be small/medium, I can’t fit into a lot of Asian clothing, which is apparently a common issue, as in most Americans, male or female, emigrated several generations ago or in the last generation, cannot fit into standard Asian or European sizing especially in the bottom half. So while I can squeeze into an Atelier Pierrot standard size jumperskirt, it might be tight on the waist if I am wearing a blouse and petticoat underneath, while the bust and hips will fit well. (Example, the maximum standard waist size of this dress is 89 cm, my waist is about 87 cm, recommended wearing ease is 2 to 3 cm.) I decided to invest in size 2, with waist of 82 to 106, which will give me plenty of room around the stomach, but unfortunately the bust will be a little loose (link here).

This dress is a pre-order that ended July 2023 and I received the dress in October 2023.  I finally wore the dress here, no real makeup or wig styling, you can see me wearing my smart watch lol.

I wish I had remembered to make a purple headdress for my handful of purple dresses, I keep forgetting, but at least this combination of purple roses on a lacy black headdress matches well enough. I also wore my broach with pressed purple flowers for the first time. Besides the lack of makeup and hair styling and missing something at the wrists, this is not a bad coord at all, pretty cohesive for just 20 minutes of preparation.

As mentioned, the waist is very comfortable and I can likely eat and drink to my heart’s content, but the bust feels a little gaping even with corsetting, and I think I would have to wear a blouse underneath always. The length of the dress is quite short, even though I am also short, so you can see my knees over my socks, but I like that about Atelier Pierrot dresses, I don’t mind. I did have to wear a black petticoat over a regular petticoat due to the sheerness of the bottom ruffle at the hem, so it got a little stuffy quickly. The fabrics are polyester after all. I also forgot about the adjustable drawstring bustle train on the back, very slight and unnoticeable from the front as you can see. Overall, the quality of the fabric and the detailed and luxurious and adjustable construction is just perfect, the ideal for a lolita dress. If I were a true plus size, I would have no complaints.

I hope you had a happy international lolita day if you celebrate!
