[fashion] DIY casual kawaii lolita t-shirt refashion

Back with another t-shirt refashion, this time a cute Animal Crossing tee from Ugly Plants! If you are interested, check out my sew-along post with video of my first refashioned casual lolita t-shirt!

This is a basic unisex cotton t-shirt from UglyPlants in size small, purchased on super clearance. The shirt is wearable and the print appears good condition, but there seems to be some black lint stuck to the print on the interior of the shirt, which I guess is why it’s on super clearance. As it was just a tad too small around the waist to wear as a night shirt or exercise shirt, clearly I should have gotten a medium, I decided to test out some cute refashion ideas I had that I wouldn’t want to try with brand new fabric. All you need is the t-shirt and narrow elastic.

Isn’t it adorable?! It’s Isabelle, of course it is. As with my previous refashion, I cut off the crewneck because it’s too tight to fit my giant head through, then used the very bottom hem of the t-shirt for a new narrower collar that looks much smoother and still could stretch. I used narrow elastic from Daiso to puff the sleeves a little bit as before, but since the sleeves are not that loose, the puff is minimal. With the 4 inches I cut off the bottom so that I don’t have to worry about it being too tight around my stomach, I made 2 strips of ruffles. I sewed one ruffle to the front but decided to use the second ruffle for the sleeves instead of the back, since no one is going to be looking at the back anyway. I just sewed the ruffles to the ends of the sleeves over the previous stitch line so it provided more layers and interest than my previous refashion.

This is not the most flattering on myself, although it was better than before, but I still kinda like it. What would have improved it the most would be to size up to medium (or large) but those sizes may have sold out and I would have had to do more resizing which I’m lazy. Also I cut it too close to the bottom of the print on a size small tee, there should be more blank space below the art for best visuals but it could not be avoided. Another cute embellishment might be ribbon bows or narrow lace trim, but I think that would make this shirt too fragile to wash and/or limit the stretch of the knit fabric. Anyway, the quick changes I already made are for the better and I will be happy to wear this shirt in the spring and summer for shopping or errands and be the cutest person in the grocery store!
