Here is my coord from the Okashicon at San Japan Japanese fashion mixer last weekend. The theme was “Spooky Sweetness,” and as Metamorphose Temps de Fille was the Japanese guest of honor, I borrowed a jumperskirt from my bestie that was spookier than any Meta dress I already owned. I crafted/decorated the hat and earrings and press on nails, and had grand plans for a lace overskirt, but when I held it up to the dress, it didn’t really look as cohesive as I wanted so I left it out. I also didn’t wear the tights to the party because uhh, it was too freaking hot and humid, so I just wore short black lace socks. At the mixer, I wore circle lenses and one more Meta ring that was white, but there wasn’t a lot of white in the coord so I left it out of the photos here.

[jumperskirt: Metamorphose Temps de Fille; blouse: Long Ears Sharp Ears; feather collar, tights: Moi Meme Moitie; shoes: American Duchess; earrings, hat: self-made; rings: Shojomonsta, off-brand; hat corsage: Empire Noir; star glasses: In Control Clothing]
Now for the con report, check my insta and twitter for the photos of my merch haul and photos of the decor and guests/attendees at the mixer. I have only been to San Japan once before, many years ago, barely remembered anything about it. But since the big Dallas cons have cancelled and Okashicon in Austin had to combine forces with San Japan, I felt this was my chance to attend San Japan and try to remember what happened lol, support my Austin friends as they work a con out of town for the first time, check out any new stuff in the artist alley or dealer’s room of the con itself since I didn’t go to any other big con so far in 2024, and of course see what new gorgeous pieces the fashion brands are bringing to sell.
Overall, my impression of the con is that the staff was organized and fairly nice (at least a little bit more than other cons but that’s not saying much), the convention center and hotels were spacious (perhaps a little too spacious as walking took a lot out of me) so that no one area felt too claustrophobic. The panel and activities and guests were about the same variety as I’d expect in a bigger con, with the addition of Studio Trigger which I wish I could have seen as I do like at least 3 of their series. The wrestling in the artist alley was annoying though, and the humidity and heat was unbearable despite it not going over 100 degrees Fahrenheit like summer Dallas cons always do, although part of that was me staying masked indoors. I enjoyed the concept of the make and take panel set up by Okashicon, even if I was doing other stuff in the room at that time, and the fashion show was memorable and had a variety of looks that were inclusive to everybody. Of course the mixer was awesome, the food was not bad for hotel catering, and I liked the activities and goody bags. I really enjoyed the con, but I did not enjoy the 6 hour drive to and from my home to San Antonio, so I have doubts about attending next year…. We shall see.
