[fanart] July 2024 bullet journal monthly layout

Wow, before the first week of July was over, I finished my monthly spread for my bullet journal, what a surprise. It’s because I had the 4th off for Independence Day and a plan for once lol.

[journal, 2024]
July’s spread is centered around the Trigun anime, specifically the newest remake, Trigun Stampede! This is because in the series, the city that was lost was called July (although they had other cities named after other months in the series, July is the most important). But an even more significant point is July is one of the hottest months of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and only getting hotter, thanks everyone for the climate change, so it was time I did a desert-themed layout to contrast with previous water-themed layouts.

I really wanted to use an official Vash the Stampede wanted poster sticker I got 2 of, one at the local anime store and the other in a pack released by the studio that came with more stickers, an acrylic stand, and a wanted poster cloth banner. I was gifted the chibi cast sticker by an artist at the local art market when I wore my closet Meryl Strife cosplay, cannot remember their name alas. So I drew the small monochrome fanarts of Wolfwood, Knives (because he wasn’t in the cast sticker) and Meryl, colored with alcohol markers in sandy shades to match the bounty award poster. The cowboy desert motif washi tape on the left side is from Paloma the Peach (finally remembered an artist name), I thought the skull, cat and red flower were represented in Trigun especially. The imagine how is touch the skies washi tape is from Hawberries and the flower in the test tube (if you know you know) from Noisywyvern. Finally, the Team Fortress 2 Red Sniper holding a jar of pee sticker is from sea_rift on instagram and the Overwatch Junkrat sticker is from girondist. Not related to Trigun, you may think, but both of these characters are from the desert, Australian desert specifically, and are related to the quotes on the fanarts I drew, because all of those quotes are related to characters in sci-fi-like desert settings, in movies that released fairly recently. That’s my big brain theme for this layout, so if you can guess all 3, well, you went to the movies more often than I did.

The rest of the layout is decorated with more stickers and washi tape from Daiso and Michael’s clearance/dollar rack; a donut, red flowers, Gemini star stickers, the road rage sticker lol. For some reason I don’t have cowboy specific stickers except Cassidy/McCree, which is a sin for a Texan I’m sure. The brown paper background is actually the backside of origami paper because… I didn’t have a brown paper that was thin enough to use, but then I put white bordered stickers on top, that was not smart.

Overall, I really love this spread, it’s funny and cute, my fanart was not the best but not the worst either, and my one brain cell worked hard on tying the different series elements together. Perhaps the only thing I would have done differently is not use the brown paper background with the white bordered stickers, maybe choose a patterned brown paper if I had any, and maybe not use weird highlighter colors on the calendar section. All right, let’s survive the broiling temperatures, until August!

Did you guess the 3 franchises? I’ll put them here so I don’t forget myself, lol

1. Meryl Strife is referencing Mad Max Fury Road because that’s part of the Australian desert post apocalypse that Junkrat came from, and also she is driving the sand vehicle and kind of a hot-tempered character herself. The tiny vehicle in the background is the best part of Fury Road, the guy with the double flamethrower guitar.

2. Wolfwood is representing Dune with the giant worm in the background that is also in Trigun, and umm… he is allegedly a man of God… which is related, there’s a lot of mystical religious stuff in Dune, and technically at one point, they got high off of worms, which is the spice allegation.

3. Knives is representing Star Wars. Because… Star Wars basically covers everything sci-fi, like giant worm in the sand that eats people. But Knives gives off that Anakin vibe as well. Did they get high in Star Wars, I’m sure they must have at least once.
