Unless something changes drastically with my current webhosting provider in like 8 months, I will not renew my website next March.
They recently added a button to the control panel with a little robot head titled “code with AI”. Now I won’t blame the person who added this on this site manager, they probably assumed they can’t get a new job easily and were trying for one last paycheck before they get laid off and replaced by the very AI they trained, but fuck everyone who thought AI was a good idea for coding. Did the numerous and countless real world industry examples of AI-generated code being full of errors and security issues not get through to these decision makers? Are they living under a rock? Is the rock made of AI? Don’t use a cute little robot head for the symbol, I’m a Transformers fan.
Plus on my hit counter website, so many hits were from bots and crawlers and also myself, not from actual visitors, although they are probably not counting hits from certain social media sites. Still very annoying for my measly website to be attacked and scraped so shamelessly!
I’d like to also clarify I mean gen-AI, AI that is literally generating stuff based on previous existing data that is stolen. I know the term “artificial intelligence” has been used for decades to mean other things like extra powerful calculators, search engines, spell checks, other properly engineered programs that work up already made stuff and is not plagiarizing anything or claiming actual intelligence. It is possible that web service providers are advertising regular old programs retitled “AI” in order to please shareholders, but I feel if tech bros are in the decision making, they are going to eventually include gen-AI especially in a techy area. And that means my artwork and photography may be plagiarized even more efficiently, hooray. (I already know posting my work anywhere on the web can eventually get scraped, that’s why I cut down on my social media presence.)
So now I’m building websites on my own using html, like I did in the early 2000s to 2010s on my old website, insomniel . com (don’t click on that link it won’t lead anywhere) for free on neocities.org. I’m on the look out (but not feeling hopeful) for a new webhosting service that won’t use AI. If you know of any, let me know. So far every single recommended host service has AI or uses a program that I know uses AI or I know is Zionist and certainly is involved with AI data lmao. Until then… free neocities.org site it is…
