Summer will be over this month except because of climate change, summer will last at least another 2 months where I live, but regardless, we are approaching the final months of the year with the “-ber” months. This month I drew a fanart for the theme of Scum Villain Self-Saving System, the danmei webnovel by MXTX. I did a PC setup featuring Liu Qingge, a character from this novel previously, but now I just want to draw the main character, Shen Qingqiu or Shen Yuan, starring these adorable fanmade washi tapes and stickers! And my slightly less adorable fanart lol. September to me is a very SVSS month because that’s when the fandom holds fests for Shen Qingqiu pairings due to his original name of Shen Jiu, “jiu” meaning nine in Chinese so ninth month of the year is his celebration month, and the “qiu” in his formal name means autumn in Chinese and September is the autumnal equinox.
First off on the left hand side, I used the Chinese amulets washi tape from Mr Nknoll on top and binqiu chibi animal ears tape from the MXTX planner, by I believe mochiplanet. I used a noodles washi tape from Shattered Earth because noodles are a featured dish lol. The red chibi Bingmei sticker is from quelmdn and the three animal SY or SQQ pairing stickers are from soursoppi. The yellow origami paper was from Daiso, as well as the cat sticker because SQQ is often depicted as a cat. The tiny cucumber and bingpup stickers are from a sticker sheet in the MXTX planner by artist carm (I think). The regular planning stickers are from Michaels and Joann’s.
On the right-hand page, I drew a quick fanart of Shen Yuan and colored with copic markers, inks and colored pencils. I pasted it on top of a beautiful origami paper featuring bamboo and chryanthemums(?), two plants featured in this novel lol. The washi tape on the edges are also from the MXTX planner featuring scenes from the novel. The foil fan sticker I believe is from the Liushen zine but not sure. The lotus sticker is from Michaels, lotus being yet another plant mentioned in the novel.
Anyway, the art is a bit meh, but that’s because I finish it in one evening so I don’t really put in 100% effort like I do for my artwork to sell. However, I did try to draw a background for once, of bamboo grass, so there’s that. Overall, the colors range from yellow to green, maybe not cohesive or very aesthetic, but it really made good use of all of the motifs and symbols of the novel, plus I finally get to use these stickers and washi tape that have been sitting on my desk for years. And that’s what’s important!
