I’ve been buying zines for over ten, maybe closer to 20 years now, including what could better be described as fan anthologies and fanbooks with fanmerch, as well as actual handmade zines by its true definition, paper folded and cut and stapled from a copier machine in the school library or at work. After visiting a local art show this month, I am more determined than ever to make DIY zines for real this time. Sure, I have made a zine or two before, but never distributed, but this time for real! I’m sure of it! I won’t forget this year, I know it!
Here is almost all of my zine collection. My newest or most recently accessed ones are on the floor, ignore the box of actual Japanese magazines on the far right. Technically I was in a couple of my friends’ zines as cameos lol. How many zines do you think are in this photo? There’s over 60 English language zines plus about 20 Japanese doujinshi, plus a couple that are lost in my house, including the Sprinkle Trinkle zine I literally just made. I never go half-ass on any collection, only whole-ass.

You can make a zine about anything tbh, there are many good ideas on youtube or instagram or tumblr, you don’t need to even draw, it can just be words and clip art. As long as you finish your zine, the goal is to distribute it for free or low-cost, stock it in a library, trade with your friends, upload it somewhere online, just keep the zines flowing.
