[fashion] Hi Barbie! Barbie lookbook video!

Hi Barbie!

I made a 4 second video clip of myself in 5 different Barbie outfits inspired by the 2023 movie that released recently. Even though it was only 4 seconds long, it took hours to film and edit lol. I didn’t buy any new stuff specifically to wear for the movie, just tried to make a lookbook from clothes I already had. Turns out I do not have a lot of pink or bright cute clothing (that aren’t t-shirts (not that Barbie can’t rock a t-shirt)).  However, I did buy this disassembled skirt from Lacemarket that I remade into a not great skirt, which I will go into more in a future entry in order to milk as much content out of a concept. First up, the adorable clip from when Barbie is greeting the other Barbies (and Ken) and the Barbies (and Kens) are greeting Barbie!

Sorry for the crunchy quality, this is all free video editing software and it shows.

me in 5 different Barbie-core outfits (sweet cowboy lolita, larme-kei, My Melody fan, Liz Lisa girl, gyaru)
[2023]
The first outfit, which is the one on the top right, is a variation of what I wore to the movie. I switched out the black Liz Lisa blouse for a black MILK poodle top, I dunno if Barbie has a poodle, she might, and if not, a poodle motif is very retro 50s which is totally Barbie.  The Barbie motif skirt was a bargain from Lacemarket, the previous owner salvaged it from a damaged/stained dress but never finished making a skirt from it, so I bought the fabric and added an elastic waistband. Unfortunately the shape is really bad as you can clearly see from the video so I want to redo it somehow but not sure how, more on that later.

Second outfit is on the bottom right (I didn’t plan this collage very well), which is a rewear of a My Melody themed outfit I wore to a museum or photo-op place years ago. The dress’s print is soooo cute and perfectly coordinates with Barbie’s gingham dress at the beach. The only thing I don’t like about the dress is that it’s a little baggy on top but I’m not fussed enough to fix it. I forgot to wear my official My Melody beret and bracelet, but it was too hot to wear a wool beret anyway.

Third outfit is the bottom left, another rewear from a few years ago. I bought this older Liz Lisa rose print dress for the summer and paired it with Liz Lisa platforms from right as they changed styles from gyaru and himekaji to larme/jirai kei.  I also wore my hair into pigtails with more rose clips and these beautiful dried rose earrings I got on Mercari. Just a cute eternal summer type of outfit!

Fourth outfit is the top left, a rewear from my space cowboy kei sweet lolita coord at Okashicon this year. Also inspired by Barbie’s cowboy outfit in the movie, except I left out the vest I wore to the mixer because it was hot. And the space theme is relevant because Barbie is also an astronaut.

Last outfit is the center bottom one, a larme-kei outfit in dusty pink and black because I uhhh wanted to wear these pieces I never wear, and Barbie also has a corporate business side which this would totally work for. I know Barbie wears other colors besides pink and black and white, but if I am going to buy a bright cute color, I would pick pink first, and thus all of my cutest and most Barbie like stuff is pink. The rest of my wardrobe is neutrals and browns and reds and some navy, none of which is cute or coordinated….

All in all, I love these Barbiecore coords, obviously, since three of them were rewears, and I’m pleased the video turned out cute since I haven’t edited videos in a while. If I can just redo the Shirley Temple Barbie skirt somehow, I would be completely happy. I suppose I have a few more pink lolita or lolita-like dresses I could have included but my hair was already a mess from changing so many times and this voice clip only had 5 “Hi Barbie!” in a row. Also the last concept I had in mind, an evening wear or disco wear outfit, I didn’t have accessories or shoes ready and don’t think I will. Perhaps I will do a Ken or Allan outfit later? Kidding, this is enough Barbie for us all for now.

Stay tuned for the Barbie skirt entry! Whenever!
